1-day course Introduction to the Crude oil industry and oil products

Working in the energy, oil and/or refining industry

This course is intended for all participants who are just working, or are going to work, in the energy, oil and/or refining industry or in the (storage/transhipment of) oil products. The course provides a global overview of the crude oil industry and the main properties of the oil products such as LPG, gasoline, kerosene, gas oil and (residual) fuel oil. 

An overview of the basic elements of the crude oil industry

This course gives a compact overview of the basic elements of the crude oil industry, of the refining of crude oil and the properties of the main oil products and their (commercial) trade names are listed. 

The main characteristics of the oil industry and its products

At the end of this day, the participant will be able to name the most important characteristics of the oil industry and its products.

Theoretical part

This course has only a theoretical part and covers the following topics:

  • Introduction, which briefly discusses the oil industry as an industry
  • Crude oil: what is crude oil, locations and the production and consumption aspects, introduction to hydrocarbons
  • Refinery: what is a refinery, its product range and the most important process steps
  • Oil products: which ones are there? Overview and most important characteristics of the oil products and their (industry/trade) names

The participants receive a compact reference book/handout, which will also serve as a source of information. At the end of the course, participants receive a Certificate. The group size is limited to 12 people, to ensure interactivity during the day and to provide ample opportunity for questions.

Course times

The course times are from 09.30 to 12.15 and from 13.15 to 16.00 hours and is held at Saybolt Vlaardingen or at a location to be specified (in-company).

Course fee

The fee of this course day is € 845,= per participant (ex. VAT, including lunch). This course can also be provided as an in-company course (on request).
